The SMIA Safety Committee and Signal Safety Team have created a library of topics for Safety Meetings, or Toolbox Talks called Focus on Safety
Across the Maritime Industry, hearing loss claims represent one of the largest type of injury risk and cost impact. Signal Mutual has been proactive at minimizing risk & financial impacts to our Members but still our Members experienced nearly 1500 hearing loss cases with significant incurred costs in the past three years.

Solutions at Work 23 Jul 2025 What is it? Solutions-at-Work or “SAW” are individual ideas where a Member of the Mutual looked at an existing hazard and, through their employee’s years of experience, knowledge, or creativity, developed a Solution to the problem that eliminated or reduced the hazard to employees and the chance of injury.
