Falls present a major risk across the Maritime Industry and our Members. These often arise from working at heights, near unguarded edges, climbing up/down stairs and equipment, or falling through open hatches. Head injuries are life-altering events for employees (and their families) that can lead to long-term disabilities and cognitive impairments and are some of the most expensive claims impacting businesses. Recently, a Member employee slipped and fell while climbing down a fixed ladder, with his hard hat coming off during the fall, resulting in a major head trauma.
