Terminal Technology Committee Releases New Focus on Safety & Solutions at Work

The Terminal Technology Committee is pleased to announce the release of a new Focus on Safety topic and Solution at Work resource.

Focus on Safety: Automated Area Safety

At a modern maritime container terminal, the safe interaction between personnel and automated equipment is critical to maintaining a productive and incident-free operation. As automation technologies (such as automated stacking cranes, autonomous vehicles, remote-operated equipment, and intelligent control systems) become increasingly integrated into terminal operations, the potential risks associated with human-machine interaction also increase.

Solution at Work: Readiness Systems: AED Sentinel Remote Monitoring

AEDs are a critical lifesaving resource, but ensuring they are ready for use always can be challenging in large, dynamic work environments. Many organizations rely on manual inspections, paper logs, or periodic visual checks that may be missed, delayed, or inconsistently documented.

These challenges are amplified for portable AEDs used in vehicles, outdoor areas, or remote locations, where movement, weather exposure, and limited connectivity can impact readiness. Missed inspections or undetected maintenance issues increase compliance risk and may delay response during a cardiac emergency.
